Glamping Around Brisbane

Looking for your next adventure around Brisbane, but don’t want to rough it?

The Motorama Team hit the road to find the best spots to getaway for a luxury weekend in the great outdoors.

Your options for camping with some added luxury are all around Brisbane, with everything from pre-assembled tents to boutique cabins and luxury homesteads.

Within a couple of hours drive of Brisbane, there are heaps of setups that take advantage of the beautiful scenery of the Great South East.

MOUNT BARNEY LODGE

Mount Barney Lodge is right in the middle of one of most picturesque spots in the Scenic Rim region, a rural retreat nestled against Mount Barney National Park. Best of all, its just two hours south of Brisbane, via the Mount Lindesay Highway on your way down to the NSW border.

The Lodge can set up your accommodation, with deluxe camper trailers set up with proper bedding, open camp fires, power and water, so all you have to bring is the esky.

Hiking Mount Barney’s tracks range from bushwalks that take less than an hour to 10km off track trails that require difficult rock climbs. See a full list of bushwalking trails and whether you want to tackle them or find another way to stretch your legs (like mountain biking on trails around the lodge, or swimming in the nearby creeks.)

During school holidays, the Lodge also runs outdoor activities for children of guests with the help of qualified instructors. You can also make your own holiday, with the town of Boonah nearby for that country feel and local wineries to sample.

The Lodge becomes busy around long weekends and school holidays, so make sure to book ahead if you want to secure your campsite. Pets are not allowed at the Lodge, as Mount Barney sits in a national park. Click here to learn more.

MORETON ISLAND

One of Brisbane's best kept island secrets, Moreton Island is always filled with campers looking to escape the mainland for the weekend, but what if you want to leave the sand on the beach where it belongs and not in your tent?

Moreton Island Castaways offers fully set up tents with proper bedding, a private ensuite (yes, hot showers & flushing toilets) and even a restaurant onsite if you don’t want to stand around cooking after a big out exploring the island.

It’s just a 100m from your patio to the beach, and there are communal cooking facilities, so all you have to supply is the catch of the day (or some snags) and enjoy the sun setting over the sea.

Despite it’s spot as a destination for off-roading, you can leave your car at the ferry terminal in Brisbane and be transferred from the MICAT straight to your digs (plus Tangalooma Resort has 4WDs for hire if you really have an itch to drive the beach.)

Once you’re on the island, you can take it as fast paced or as relaxed as you want, you can go from sunning yourself on the sand and exploring the lighthouse at Cape Moreton to snorkelling among shipwrecks or sliding down the dunes with some extreme sand boarding.

There are peak seasons on the island, as always long weekends and school holidays seea lot of families jumping in the car to head off to make their own adventures on Moreton. Click here to learn more.

TWEED COAST

The Gold Coast and Byron Bay is packed with luxury accommodation with beach views, but it’s often chock full of tourists and more than willing to put a sizeable dent in your holiday savings.

But smack in the middle, the Tweed Coast comes with all of the charms of views out to the Pacific, but without the fight of crowds and costly expenses of staying on the glitter strip.

Tweed Coast Holiday Parks have sites in Fingal, Kingscliff and Hastings Point in Northern NSW – but among the caravans and regular tent sites, they have dedicated glamping set-ups in their Surfari Tents, with everything you would want while you’re away from home.

Not your average canvas tent, Surfari Tents come complete with cooking facilities (including a fridge to keep the catch of the day fresh) as well as private bathroom amenities and even a TV and DVD player to set up a movie night for the gang.

And of course you’re within a stones throw of the Gold Coast or down to Byron Bay, so you can enjoy all the tourist options, and then head back to your digs away from the party vibes of the two hotspots (or recover in peace and quiet after being out the night before…)
