Supporting our local community is one of the core values at Motorama.
Every year, through our Community Donation Program, we donate $100,000 to three local charities that all do wonderful things within our community.
Anybody that purchased a car from Motorama Pre-Owned during 2021 could vote for one of the three local charities. Choosing just one charity for us to contribute to is most guests hardest decision.
Foodbank Queensland is the largest hunger relief charity in the state. Every day, Queenslanders are going hungry. For many, it only takes an emergency bill for necessities such as health care, home repayments or car, that results in going hungry. No matter who we are or where we come from, sometimes life gets tough.
Foodbank Queensland believes that all Queenslanders deserve access to good quality food. That’s why they are working tirelessly to source millions of kilograms of food from farmers, manufacturers and retailers every year and distribute this food to over 300 Food Relief Charities and 300 School Breakfast Programs to help Queenslanders in need. Foodbank’s operations also actively reduce food landfill, positively impacting our environment.
"Foodbank Queensland is incredibly grateful for the support of Motorama customers donating over $23,000 to help feed Queenslanders doing it tough. Thanks to the generosity of Motorama, Foodbank Queensland can continue to provide the most food to the most Queenslanders in need in the most efficient and effective ways. Every $1 donated to Foodbank can be turned into two nutritious meals for someone suffering from hunger, and thanks to Motorama, 46,290 meals will be supplied to Queenslanders in need. Thank you to Motorama for continuing to support our communities. Together, we can give food and hope to those who need it most”, explains Sarah Collie, Individual Giving Manager at Foodbank Queensland.
The Starlight Children's Foundation - with Motorama being a founding partner of the Starlight Express Room at the Queensland's Children's Hospital - aims to help brighten the lives of seriously ill children, teenagers and their families. Starlight helps sick kids forget their illness, turning pain, fear and stress into fun, joy and laughter.
Tracey Tomlin, State Partnerships Manager, received the cheque from Motorama Group Training Manager, Damian Woelders and had the following to say:
"Thank you Motorama, for your support and generosity. You continue to make such a difference to the lives of sick children and their families, and we couldn’t do what we do without you! Being seriously ill shouldn't mean missing out on the fun of childhood and thanks to this donation, we can brighten the hospital experience for over 1,450 sick kids. These past 2 years have given us all personal experiences of uncertainty, social isolation and disruption. This is something sick kids face each and every day but thanks to your support, Starlight is there to bring the fun, joy and laughter that is essential to sick kids’ health and wellbeing."
There is a Starlight Express Room in every children’s hospital in Australia. These bright, medical free havens run by Captain Starlight, are filled with fun, music, games and arts and crafts. While doctors treat a child’s illness, our super hero Captain Starlight entertains the children with an essential dose of laughter, play and creativity.
Starlight knows there is more to treating an illness than just medicine, that is why they work hand in hand with health professionals. Play, art, games and creativity are all important to a child’s wellbeing and that helps overall health too. Starlight disrupts the relentless cycle of pain, stress and trauma and offers a welcome break so that kids can simply be kids. When a once-bright life becomes dulled by needles, hospital visits and painful treatments, Starlight helps sick kids forget their illness and re-discover the joy of childhood.
White Cloud Foundation is a Queensland-based charity focused on providing both practical and clinical support for people struggling with depression and anxiety. Right now in Australia, rates of depression and anxiety are at an all-time high thanks to COVID and its impact on all of our lives. This has led to an increased demand on existing mental health services and waiting times for psychology appointments can be up to six months. The mental health system is overloaded and under resourced.
White Cloud Foundation Founder and Chair, Professor Adam Scott, recognised that the current system for mental health treatment was not working and wanted to do something about it. “It is simply overloaded and under resourced,” said Professor Scott. “And if people can’t get help when they need it, their mental health can deteriorate and lead to suicide. “That’s why White Cloud launched its new Tele-Mental Health Service in August 2021, so that people now had the opportunity to access the treatment and support they need at the time they need it. Not six months later”. The White Cloud Tele-Mental Health Service also removes other barriers to accessing treatment for depression and anxiety. The service is free and there is no need to go to a GP first for a diagnosis, referral and Mental Health Plan."
What makes the White Cloud Tele-Mental Health Service even more unique, is that it offers an holistic approach to treating depression and anxiety. When people call White Cloud, they are not just given appointments with one mental health professional, they are supported by a whole team of multi-disciplinary clinicians including Dietitians, Exercise Physiologists, Social Workers, Psychologists and Counsellors. This team treats a patient from multiple angles, looking at their sleep, diet, movement, relationships and other factors that could be impacting on their mental health.
"White Cloud Foundation would not have been able to launch this service without the amazing support of Motorama and the Motorama Charity Foundation. In its first four months of operation, this service has already helped more than 40 people and conducted over 100 individual appointments. We are very eager to help more people in 2022. Thanks to this recent donation from Motorama’s used car sales program, we will be able to provide another 134 appointments and play our part in reducing suicide rates in Australia,” said Prof Scott.
"On behalf of the Motorama Charity Foundation, I'd like to thank all our Motorama Pre-Owned Retail teams and customers for helping choose how we supported our four charities", said Damian Woelders.
"We are very proud to donate this money to these worthwhile causes and will continue to do the same in 2022."
