Motorama cleaning up after the storm

​The supercell storm that hit Brisbane at the end of November was one of the biggest to hit the River City in nearly 30 years. The damage bill ran into the hundreds of millions of dollars leaving the whole city cleaning up after the freak weather.

The Motorama Group bore the full brunt of the storm with all dealerships hit with damaging winds, rain and hail.

Motorama’s dealerships at Moorooka, that house 60% of their cars, were very badly hit and nearly 600 cars were written off due to damage from the storm. Used car stock in particular received a battering, with five used car yards smashed by the storm, and forcing the closure of one yard due to the lack of stock.

Motorama Group Managing Director Mark Woelders said the storm had undoubtedly brought its challenges.

“It did a lot of damage, not just to us, but to everyone in the area,”

“We’ve lost close to 350 used cars – that’s definitely hard. Closing one of our yards, and putting people on leave because there’s no used stock for them to sell – it’s an effect of the storm that’s not measured in the clean up bill,”

“If anyone is thinking of trading their car in, it would be the best time to do it now, because our used car stocks are very low and we are actively restocking,” he said.

Mr. Woelders also praised the Motorama team for their hard work in preparing for the storm, and in the clean up afterwards.

“The team really pulled together and thanks to their efforts, our new car stock has been unaffected by the weather, it’s business as usual for new car end of year stock clearance.  In the last few days, we have experienced a spike in enquiry & sales as more cars are written off by insurors and customers are looking to get back on the road” he said.

Motorama’s off-site, 6 hectare hail proof storage facility proved invaluable in the storm – over 1000 new cars were able to be protected and fresh stock was ready to drive onto our lots with no damage the next day.
