Either we don't care or we don't know, but we break the rules constantly.
Here's a list of the 5 road rules Brisbane drivers break on a daily basis.
RACQ spokeswoman Lauren Ritchie says drivers were throwing their money away on unnecessary fines. “It should be one of the easiest rules to understand but last year in the Brisbane region we saw more than 3000 drivers fined for not stopping at a stop sign,” Ms Ritchie said. “Stop signs mean you must come to a fully controlled stop behind the line before you take off again. It’s not rocket science.”
These laws may seem trivial to some drivers, but they were designed to make it safer for everyone on the road. Disobeying the 'No Right Turn' sign is a common one, but ignored anyway. “It’s up to every driver to brush up on the road rules before they get behind the wheel, and to ensure they follow them - ignoring these laws is risking your life and the lives of others," Ms Ritchie said.
Following another vehicle too closely is known as tailgating. You should drive at least 2 seconds behind the vehicle in front during ideal conditions. Add 1 second extra for each 3m of trailer length—when driving a vehicle towing a trailer or caravan. Tailgating is the leading cause to a rear-ender.
Most modern cars have automatic lights nowadays, but if your doesn't, you got to make sure to turn on your lights when it gets dark outside or you have reduced visibility. It will safe you $126 and 1 demerit point, plus other road users will actually be able to see you. Watch out in urban areas with street lights; you might not notice your lights aren't on. The illuminated symbol on your dashboard will remind you.
Just take it off when you're done; easy as!
