Hitting the road for the holidays? You’ll want to stay connected online to check in with friends and family.
We’ve got the guide to keep you on Instagram and Facebook.
Going online constantly has become a must thing for many of us now.
We go online to chat with others, pay bills, information searching, gaming and many more. It is important to know where we can gain Internet access when travelling.
Your phone may not always have a strong signal, and there’s always the dreaded ‘exceeded data limit’ text that can soon add up if you’re away from home.
If you’re on the road with your caravan, or you’re headed camping for the holidays, thankfully most caravan parks in Australia do provide Wi-Fi access for guests - all you need to do is to connect your devices to the caravan park hotpots. BIG4 holiday parks offer free Wi-Fi at sites around the country, so you can upload holiday snaps on the fly – or chill out with Netflix if you’ve had a big day boating, camping and fishing.
(P.S. If the Wi-Fi coverage of the caravan park that you are staying isn’t that strong at your site, it’s almost always better near their reception or common areas.) Some caravan parks do charge for Wi-Fi connection, so double check when you’re planning your getaway.
If you can’t stay away from Facebook, the smartphone app has been updated to include a Find Wi-Fi option which accesses free, public Wi-Fi networks around you in order to minimize using your phone’s data.
Head into the options tab in the bottom right of the app and enable the function before you head out on the road, to save chewing up your mobile data.
And while you’re on the road, the kids playing games or streaming shows on the iPad can get costly if your data plan is already near it’s limits. McDonalds is always a safe option to get free Wi-Fi if you’re pulled in for a pit-stop, and most regional towns will have cafés or shopping centres that offer a free connection (although you might have to ask for the password!)
If you are getting on the road, make sure you’re not on your phone when your driving – arrive safely and don’t muck around with changing the music or answering calls or texts. Before you take off on your holiday, the expert Service Technicians at Motorama can make sure your car is working perfectly so all you have to do is plug your phone in for the playlist, and drive straight to your vacation spot. (Make sure you get a selfie with your #Motorama car that took you there, and tag @motoramagroup)
