Regularly changing your oil and keeping your filters clean helps to ensure your car's engine stays in tip-top shape and can even boost its lifespan. But how often should you change your oil and filters?
There are many factors that contribute to the overall health of your car engine, including the average length of the trips you take and the conditions you drive in.
Your manufacturer's handbook will offer their recommendation of how often you should carry out regular maintenance work, such as oil and filter changes, but this can vary depending on how you use your car, as well as the age of your vehicle.
Most manufacturers recommend that you have your oil and filters changed every 5,000km to 10,000km or every six months - whichever comes first.
But there are certain times where you might wish to change your oil and filters more frequently.
Driving in particularly dusty or wet conditions can be harder on your engine, as can short, frequent trips and high-speed driving in hot weather.
Older cars with less efficient engines might require more frequent servicing, and you might also want to get your oil changed more often if you regularly use your vehicle for towing or to carry heavy loads.
