4 Upgrades that made the Ford Everest even better

The Ford Everest has been a popular choice for both city slickers as well as those who like heading off road. It looks good, but can also handle any terrain you throw at it. Both on and off-road, the Everest claims its spot. For the 2019 model year, Ford has given it a minor facelift that gives it a few upgrades that make it even better.

ENGINE CHOICE

The Ford Everest already came in three spec levels (Ambiente, Trend and Titanium) with several options, but you now also have the choice between two different engines. Ford retained the 143kW/470Nm 3.2-litre five-cylinder diesel engine, but also made the Everest (except the entry-level Ambiente) available with the new 2.0-litre four cylinder bi-turbo diesel, that puts out 157kW and 500Nm. Both are matched with the new 10-speed automatic transmission. The new engine is both quieter and smoother, and this has seen a 20 percent better fuel economy, now at 7.1L/100km.

Furthermore, you can choose whether you want the Everest as a five or seven seater, and in 4WD or rear-wheel drive.

LOOKS

Not that the Everest really needed to change it looks, but a fresh look of course never hurts. That’s why Ford fitted the vehicle with a new grille, lower front bumper and fits the top-of-the-line Titanium with optional 20-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the interior has been refreshed as well, with some new materials and finishes.

SAFETY

The previous Ford Everest already didn’t lack safety technology, with seven airbags standard across the range and the Trend and Titanium fitted with Adaptive Cruise Control (now with Traffic Sign Recognition), Blind Spot Monitoring, Forward Collision Alert and Lane Keeping Assist. On the 2019 model, you’ll now also get Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection, which can make all the difference in an emergency situation.

TECHNOLOGY

To keep the Everest up-to-date, Ford has now fitted the Ambiente with a proximity key fob and starter button, 10-speaker audio system and 8.0-inch touchscreen as standard. The Trend and Titanium have been fitted with HID headlights, LED daytime running lights and an electric tailgate with motion sensor.

Standard across the Everest range for the new model year are the reversing camera, rear parking sensors and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Entry-level Ambiente, only with 3.2-litre engine, starts just under $50k. The mid-range Trend is available with both engines and prices around $55k. The top-of-the-range Titanium, only comes with 2.0-litre bi-turbo and has a price tag just above $70k.
