The new Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid EV has landed and brings with it an impressive suite of high-tech gadgets and modern safety features.
After spending some time driving in it, there are a few features that really stand out to us and make the Outlander really stand out. Here are our five favourite things about the new Outlander Plug-In Hybrid EV.
Heads up displays are slowly making their way into more and more regular cars which is great because we just love how futuristic it makes your daily commute feel. It’s easy to forget you’ve got a slick, new digital dash full of dials and displays when you never have to take your eyes off the road to check your speed or GPS. Apart from the base model, all variants of the Outlander include the Heads Up Display - so you don’t necessarily have to fork out for the top-of-the-range Exceed Tourer model to get this feature.
We reckon that the combination of wireless charging and Wireless Apple CarPlay is the pinnacle of convenience for modern cars and going forward all manufacturers should be looking to integrate this into as many models as possible. If you’re an advocate for using Apple CarPlay over the OEM infotainment system and you like a tidy centre console devoid of cables and adaptors, the wireless charger and Wireless Apple CarPlay combo is a godsend. And, when your car already has a dedicated spot for your smartphone, it’s a no-brainer for the manufacturer to convert it to a wireless charging station.
84KM EV PURE DRIVING RANGE
Mitsubishi has boosted the range of the EV powertrain over the previous generation of Outlander PHEV by a whopping 30 kilometres. This means you now have 84 kilometres of pure electric driving on top of your 2.4-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine. This range means you can drive your daily commute from as far out as Yatala to Brisbane CBD solely on electric power, plus, you'll have a few extra kilometres left over to swing by the supermarket on the way home. Not only is this great for saving on fuel costs, but you also get the satisfaction of the silent drive for which EVs are known.
The beauty of having a large battery in your car is its ability to power more than just the car itself. This is why we love that Mitsubishi has added two 240V power outlets to all variants of the Outlander PHEV apart from the base model. Unlike the majority of cars on the market, in the Outlander PHEV, you’re not restricted to just those appliances that function via a 12V outlet. Go ahead and take your hair straightener for a quick once-over before heading into that important meeting - or why not whip together a quick smoothie from the boot of your car after a gym sesh?
The higher spec models of the Outlander PHEV feature a 5+2 seat layout with a really nifty stowing configuration for the third-row seats. Due to the stowed rear seats, many seven-seater vehicles on the market have a visibly raised boot floor. If you looked in the boot of the Outlander PHEV while the rear seats were completely packed down, you’d be forgiven for not realising they were even there. The boot floor is flat as a tack and sufficiently inset. You also have the ability to pull out the rear seats into a sort of “half-raised” position that opens up the deeper compartment to house uniquely-shaped objects like flatpack furniture.
These features are really just the tip of the iceberg with the Outlander Plug-In Hybrid EV. There are stacks of features included across all models so make sure to drop into your nearest Motorama Mitsubishi showroom to book yourself a test drive!
