It isn’t everyday that we have a Toyota Tundra utility on our yard at Motorama. This is why we decided to take a look at it and see what this big truck is all about.
First introduced into the United States in 1999, it was the answer to the big utility trucks in America. Built in San Antonio, Texas the Toyota Tundra has been nominated for in the North American Truck of the Year awards and was Motor Trend Magazine’s Truck of the Year on two occasions.
Toyota USA describes the Tundra as “Work ready. Family tough.” It isn’t hard to see why this is an accurate standard.
Under the hood, the power to tow 4-tonnes comes from a V8 5.7Litre petrol engine producing 284kW of power and over 540Nm of torque. This means that you won’t get caught short, when needing to tow. When even cruising down the road, the feedback from the V8 is that of a beast from a fantasy story. It roars, it shakes and rumbles in the most satisfying way.
ou won’t get stuck either with the small turning circle, much better than you’d experience with a much smaller SUV or utility truck. With a Toyota TRD Genuine exhaust, the experience is amplified and there is no doubt that it will leave a lasting impression.
Looking at the exterior features on this particular Toyota Tundra, you’ll find 3inch stainless steel sidesteps to make getting in and out a breeze, a tub liner to protect the rear tray from that weekend of hard labor and a retractable hard cover tonneau cover.
Don’t think that because of the characteristics we’ve described will mean that the Tundra is uncomfortable. There’s a full leather interior for comfort, satellite navigation to know where you need to go, Bluetooth for your phone and entertainment needs; and a reversing camera and sensors to make parking a breeze.
Oh, and you can’t forget the sunroof. Perfect for letting the sunshine in whilst your towing anything and everything on the back. This Toyota Tundra was converted from left-hand-drive to right-hand-drive by Performax International, located in Gympie, Queensland.
However, if we didn’t tell you that the Toyota Tundra is only made in left-hand-drive, you wouldn’t be able to tell by the quality of finish. There are not many Toyota Tundra’s around, and not only does it feel great drive and have presence on the road, it is a highly practical vehicle that won’t let you down.
