Review: 2022 Kia Stinger GT Tekno Pack

Motorama Kia Moorooka have teamed up with Tekno Bespoke to take things to the next level with the 2022 Kia Stinger GT Tekno Performance Pack!

It can be easy to forget that amongst all of the family SUVs and electric vehicles in the current Kia lineup, it was in 2017 that the Kia Stinger hit Australian roads. The combination of a powerful twin-turbo 6 cylinder engine, coupled with bold european inspired luxury styling, the Kia Stinger offered a package equal to, and arguably better, than it's european rivals, at a far more attractive price.

INITIAL IMPRESSION

Its striking Neon Orange paint and sleek body lines draws you immediately to the Kia Stinger. As you get closer, you realise it sits closer to the ground, with a wider stance than a standard Stinger, hinting that there is something special about this particular Stinger.

Sitting inside the driver seat, that special feeling continues. It is common for manufacturers to throw as many features as they can into a vehicle in an attempt to match their European rivals, and this often leads to issues around quality and usability. The Kia Stinger avoids all of this with it’s soft touch leather, ambient lighting and well thought-out design. You know from the minute you sit down that you are in a prestige vehicle.

What is the Tekno Performance Pack?

Tekno Bespoke is an aftermarket specialist in Brisbane who have taken everything they have learnt from motorsport as Bathurst 12 Hour Winners and applied that to enhancing the cars the everyday punter drives on the road.

The Kia Stinger Tekno Performance Pack takes things to the next level with HSD Coilovers, AEM Cold Air Intake, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S Tyres plus a host of cosmetic modifications.

DRIVEABILITY

In “Comfort Mode” the Kia Stinger is exactly that, it is a comfortable ride with lane keep assist and smart cruise control, but let’s be honest, you care more about what happens when you put it in “Sports Mode”. Turn the dial to “Sports Mode”, you instantly feel the driver seat bolstering inflate and hug you tighter to give you the support you need when on the backroads.

The driver’s seat can make or break a performance car, if you are vertically challenged, then the seat can feel a little long, but the seating position is spot on and can be adjusted for even the tallest of drivers.

Once you put your foot down for the first time you instantly understand the Tekno Performance Pack, as the AEM Cold Air Intakes provides an exhilarating soundtrack whilst sucking in air to feed the twin turbos. During my extended review, the car enthusiast in me never got bored of the sounds created every time I stepped on or off the right pedal. This added a whole new dimension to the driving experience which is becoming harder and harder to find with the increasing regulations on sports cars.

LIVEABILITY

What makes the Kia Stinger such an appealing car in the market is the way it combines performance with practicality. The market is flooded with sports compacts which can rival the Stinger in performance, however to achieve this you have to remove your passengers’ legs so they fit in the back. Meanwhile the Kia Stinger can comfortably fit 4 adults, a 5th at a squeeze, and all of their luggage in the large boot. Whether it is the groceries, luggage for a weekend away or the golf clubs for a day with friends, there is more than enough room in the boot of the Stinger.

This space does make the Kia Stinger a fairly large car but it never really feels it thanks to the 360 degree camera and blind spot cameras. Let’s talk about these blindspot cameras for a second. Blind Spot Cameras are a feature rarely seen at this point and the technology is fantastic. When you put your indicator on, the display in the dash shows you in real time exactly what is in your blindspot. It might not sound like much, but once you experience it for the first time you realise what you have been missing out on.

The technology doesn’t end there with a beautiful 10.25” HD Touch Screen that is fast, responsive and comes standard with Apple Car Play & Android Auto. Once you have connected your device and placed it on the wireless charging pad, your music will start playing through 15 exceptional Harman Kardon speakers. Combine this personal concert with the sunroof, ambient lighting, heated and ventilated nappa leather seats, you will never want to leave.

COST

The 2022 Kia Stinger GT Tekno Pack costs $95,777 drive away which is relatively good value when you consider all of the modifications included in the pack;

  • AFE Cold Air Intake
  • HSD Coilovers
  • 20” Niche Wheels
  • 245 & 275 Michelin Pilot Sport 4s Tyres
  • Tekno Body Kit
  • Blackout Kit
  • Custom Black Painted Roof
